The Psychology Of Shopping
Never give out details of your credit card unless there is a good reason to do so.
If somebody phones and says they are from your credit card company tell them you will phone them back and use the phone number from your credit card statement not a number they might give you.
If they say they can't answer you on that number then that is their problem. They should be able to.
Fraudsters do ring people and ask them to confirm their details which enables the fraudsters to hijack your acount.
Never reply to emails asking you to confirm your password or any other details with your bank or credit card company.
These will almost certainly be fraudulant emails attempting to get your personal information so the fraudsters can use your card or bank details to obtain money or goods.
You should be protected for fraud by your bank or credit card company but if you give away your secret information they might consider you at least partially liable.
Credit Card Tips
   Why Do We Love Shopping
Why do we shop? It isn't just shopping for the essentials we need like food and water. Most people get little pleasure from shopping for food but most of us get pleasure from shopping for personal items and "goodies" for the home.

There is something significant, even exciting, when we are selecting items for ourselves and for the home. Perhaps it goes back to our caveman roots. As "Hunter Gatherers" we can trawl the shops and seek out what we see as appropriate for the lifestyle we want.

The shops make the most of this by having attractive displays and lighting that creates a mood within us They try, and succeed, in making us feel comfortable in the setting they provide so we are encouraged to try to develop that same comfort level at home. The obvious way to do that is to ship the whole scene they provide to our homes.

We all seek significance. Centuries ago we would have built a bigger house, farmed a bigger farm become a member of the local town council. These things don't really apply for most of us, these days. You may slog away all week in an office where there are hundreds of others doing the same. You might be in a factory where you feel you are just a number. For most of us work doesn't feed our need for significance. However, when we go shopping, the shop assistant makes us feel important. They care whether we shop with them so we are important to them.

Being aware of this is a big step forward. If we can see through the gloss and appreciate what is being done to "get inside" our minds then we start from a stronger position. The person who get s the best bargain is the one who can stand firm and refuse to pay more than the price they value something at.

It's smoke and mirrors. That new settee will not make you a better person. It may get admiring comments from your friends though they may just be saying it to please you  Before you get that card out. Think about the consequences of purchase. Will you still love it in six months? You may still be paying for it then. Will you be happy about that? Could you have used the mony for something else that might have made you even happier? Would you be happiest if the money was still in your pocket? Just think about it before you purchase.

1) Do you Really want it? Will you still be happy with it in 6 months?

2) Is it what you really need or is it something you think you ought to have?

3) Can you afford it? Remember that the interest will be constantly adding to the cost month by month, on your credit card. If you never completely clear your credit card debts then you never quite know when you have paid it off. It might be years before you do.

4) Would having the money in your pocket or savings account actually mak you a lot happier? If you have money in the bank you can smile at your neighbours struggling to keep up with their payments. You are entitled to feel more intelligent, more sensible and more significant because you have used your brain.

So be aware of the urge to impress others and don't worry about feeling significant. There are other ways than shopping to achieve that.

Treat your credit card like a pet dog. Be fond of it by all means but always keep it under control. Don't go letting it bite anybody because the person it bites will be you.
